The entire student body elects the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Student Council. In addition, all Presidents of the various societies and clubs elected to office by their members are part of the Student Council. The Student Council coordinates all student activities and acts as a liaison between the students and management of the College. The President and Vice President of the Student Council are ex-officio members of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee of the College.
There are five societies at the college. They are the Debating Society, the Dramatics Society, the SJC Environmental Society, the Sports Society and the Entrepreneurial society. The leaders, that is, Presidents, Vice-Presidents and Secretaries of the societies are elected by the members of each society. Each society organizes activities to develop and grow its members and holds events for the entire student body. Members also participate in inter collegiate championships at both the local and national level.
There are twenty clubs organized by the students themselves at the College. Some of them are the Physics club, the Biology Club, the Economics Club, the Statistics Club, the Psychology Club and the Sociology Club. The Presidents, Vice-Presidents and Secretaries of the clubs are elected by the members of the club. Like the societies the clubs organize activities to develop and grow its own members and hold events such as seminars and exhibitions for the entire student body.
Sport is very important to maintaining good health, developing team skills and learning to deal with both winning and losing. The spacious grounds of St. Joseph's College facilitate the playing of various sports. Students actively participate in sports such as netball, basketball, volleyball, throwball, swimming, table-tennis, cricket and badminton. SJC students generally win the competitions they take part in, bringing laurels to the College.
In addition to the above, the College organizes various academic and cultural activities such as an innovative ideas exhibition, student-led seminars on current topics, dramas, milads and fun-fairs that serve to broaden students' horizons. Emphasis is also laid on responsible citizenship and community service, the student body raises funds to aid those less fortunate than themselves, participates in blood donation drives and gives of their knowledge and time to better their community.
To recognize, award and celebrate the outstanding achievements of students in academics, co-curricular activities and service to their community, the College organizes an awards night. Students are given medals, shields and certificates for their outstanding performance in a host of areas. On this occasion the College also recognizes the outstanding performance of teachers and staff by awards of shields and certificates.
